Us Purple Rose Ceramics, we believe in the beauty of holding
something real, crafted by hand, and made with care and love for pleasant homes. Each of our ceramic
pieces is shaped in small batches using natural clay, glazed with care, and fired at high temperatures
to create timeless, functional art for everyday living.
Born out of a love for simplicity, texture, and soulful design, our studio creates mugs, tableware,
diffusers, and décor that celebrate both form and function. No two pieces are ever exactly alike and
that’s the charm. Every mark, ripple, or glaze variation tells the story of a maker’s touch.
From morning coffee to candlelit dinners, Purple Rose Ceramics is here to make the little moments feel beautifully grounded.
*Handmade. Heartfelt. Made for your everyday.*This process removes air bubbles and creates a uniform consistency in the clay. It involves kneading the clay, often in a spiral or ram's head motion. Accurate measurement of clay is important, especially when using a pottery wheel, to ensure consistent results.
Throwing: This involves shaping clay on a potter's wheel. The potter centers the
clay on the wheel, opens a hole in the center, and then pulls up the clay to form the desired shape.
Hand Building: This encompasses various techniques
Pinching: Creating a pot by pressing and shaping the clay with fingers.
Coiling: Building up walls with rolled clay coils.
Slab Building: Forming pieces from rolled-out slabs of clay.
Slip Casting:This involves pouring liquid clay (slip) into a mold and allowing it to dry.
Slow Drying: Pottery needs to dry slowly and evenly to prevent
cracking or warping. It's often placed in a damp cupboard or under plastic to control the drying
process.
Leather-hard: Clay reaches a leather-hard state when it's firm enough to handle but still retains
some
moisture. This is a good stage for trimming and refining the piece.
Bisque Firing:The first firing, done at a lower temperature, hardens the clay and prepares it for
glazing.
Glaze Firing: The second firing, at a higher temperature, melts the glaze onto the pottery,
creating a durable and decorative surface.
Kiln: A kiln is used to fire the pottery, providing the necessary heat for the chemical changes
to occur.
Glaze Application:Glaze is applied to the bisque-fired pottery, often by dipping, brushing, or
spraying.
Glaze Firing: The glaze firing melts the glaze, fusing it to the pottery and creating a smooth,
colorful surface.
